als, wenn or wann in German

als: one time in the past
Use als for a single event or one period in the past, such as childhood. It sends the verb to the end.
Als ich in Rom war, habe ich viel Eis gegessen.
When I was in Rome, I ate lots of ice cream.
Als sie ein Kind war, hatte sie einen Hund.
When she was a child, she had a dog.
wenn: repeated, present, future, if
Use wenn for things that happen again and again, for anything present or future, and for conditions.
Immer wenn ich meine Oma besuchte, backte sie Kuchen.
Whenever I visited my grandma, she baked cake.
Wenn du in Berlin bist, ruf mich an.
When you're in Berlin, give me a call.
Wenn ich morgen Zeit habe, helfe ich dir.

wann: questions about time
wann asks for a time, in direct and indirect questions. In an indirect question the verb goes to the end.
Wann fährt der Zug nach München?

Can als be used for the present?
Not in the meaning 'when'. For present and future events, wenn is the only choice.
Does wenn mean 'if' or 'when'?
Both, and context decides: Wenn es regnet can mean 'if it rains' or 'whenever it rains'. Use falls to say clearly 'in case'.
